Emma Ramadan G’14 and Olivia Baes ’13 and G’14 bonded over a shared love of French author Marguerite Duras while studying for an MA in Cultural Translation at AUP. Their second published co-translation of Duras’s work, The Easy Life, has achieved critical acclaim in both The Guardian and The New Yorker.

The American University of Paris is pleased to announce its 2023 IAPP Westin Scholar Award recipient as Rebecca Stone G’23, who recently graduated with an MSc in Human Rights and Data Science (HRDS). 

The film Alfonso and Mayar produced – a seven-minute documentary called I Feel Perfect about Stoian, a man living on the streets of Paris – has since found success at a number of international film festivals.

After graduation, alumni of The American University of Paris often stay in touch with their professors. Some, like Jan Steyn ’08 (Comparative Literature & English) and G’10, go further, actively collaborating with faculty members throughout their careers. Steyn’s work with Professor Dan Gunn of the Department of Comparative Literature and English started while at AUP and has recently culminated in the release of a collection of essays exploring literary translation, which is edited by Steyn and includes Gunn as a contributor.

On Wednesday, January 19, 2021, AUP’s Center for Writers and Translators (CWT) – a research center dedicated to the promotion of literary activity, especially as it relates to the practice of translation – co-hosted, along with the American Library in Paris, an “Evening with an Author” event with New York–based writer Joshua Cohen.
