MSc in International Management: NGO and Mission-Based Management Track

The MSIM program offers a specialized track in mission-based management and sustainability systems to allow students increased focus and commitment, in their future careers, to ethical strategic problem-solving. The track prepares students, specifically, to work in non-governmental organizations and other mission-based organizations dedicated to social issues. The core competencies gained in this track,  such as in finance, strategy and operations, as well as leadership and negotiation, are relevant across the playing field, should you choose to work for an NGO, in the social sector, or for a business or corporation. When interacting with communities and their stakeholders, these skills allow students to navigate the permeability of the for-profit and the not-for-profit sectors, to efficiently manage, for example, special resources and outcome reporting skills. While NGO’s have adopted conventional management techniques to manage their performance and effectiveness, social enterprises borrow frameworks and techniques from the NGO sector. No matter the type of structure you enter upon graduation, this track will prepare you for the efficient management of international, hands-on projects.

Structure

Alongside the core modules of the MSc in International Management, you will take the following track-specialty courses:

Core Courses

  • BA5024 NGO Financial Management
  • BA5055 NGO & Mission-based Management

Track-relevant content is also a part of the learning objectives of several core courses and electives. Graduate advising focuses on offering you customized readings, research opportunities and further resources specific to your interests, and the end-level assessments offer another way to differentiate your degree. Moreover, if you are interested in taking this track-specific focus further, you may complete a research project, a professional experience or further directed studies in these areas.
